Used truck sales rise in 2010

According to ACT Research Co., the sale of used Class 8 commercial vehicles have risen 55 percent compared to last year at the same time.

While unit sales are up, dealers have had some issues with the shortage of inventory. They fear that if the supply of used trucks continues to lower, the prices will go up.

The ACT receives about 10 percent of used truck transactions and are pushing for more dealers to report their sales. The database shows approximately 2,500 transactions per month.

Fewer cars produced as a result of the recession

In 2010, fewer new cars have been produced because of the recession meaning there are fewer used cars on the market as well.

September is usually a great time to buy a car because sales people are trying to get rid of last year’s models in order to prepare for the new year’s model. In August, dealers reported to have 33 percent less vehicles in their lots than they did in 2009.

Deals will still be used in may dealerships because sales people want to start September off with high sales numbers and a good bargain is a great way to get a consume to buy a vehicle.

Sales of used trucks slow in July

The sales of used trucks have slowed from June to July, but are still on a positive gain for the entire year. On a year-to-year basis, 2010 is 43 percent increase over the sales in 2009.

The price of a used truck has moved slightly higher in 2010 and the average age of the truck has also slightly raised. The ACT Used Truck database, which collects data for the commercial vehicle industry, shows that there have been about 2,500 purchases per month.

The vice-president of ACT said that the used truck sales would probably not increase until the sales of new trucks increase bringing in more equipment.
