Patriots meet Giants at Super Bowl XLVI

The 2012 Super Bowl game at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis is where the New York Giants and the New England Patriots will meet to battle for the Super Bowl trophy.  The Giants and the Patriots met together for the 2008 Super Bowl where the Giants won the game ruining the Patriots’ 18-0 record for that season.

This year, the Patriots enter the game with a 15-3 record and a head coach/quarterback duo leading their team for the fifth time at the Super Bowl in 11 seasons.  The Giants have a 12-7 record and just came off a winning streak where they beat the Atlanta Falcons, top-seeded Green Bay Packers, and the San Francisco 49ers for the NFC Championship.

Austin’s Startup Olympics to be held this weekend

The Austin Startup Olympics is a 10-event competition for some of Austin’s most esteemed startup companies.  The games played will be for charity.  The events played will be Foosball, Beer Pong, Flip Cup, Shuffleboard, and Darts.

Some of the companies competing will be Build-a-Sign, Mass Relevance, SpareFoot, Spredfast, uShip, and Whale Shark Media.  The charities the teams will be playing for are Capital Area Food Bank, Austin Pro Bono, Austin Children’s Museum, and Communities in Schools of Central Texas.

10th Annual Star of Texas Tattoo Art Revival this weekend

Starting on Friday, the tattoo revival will open its doors featuring more than 200 artists and thousands of visitors from all over the world.  The event runs Friday through Sunday and will have live tattooing along with motorcycle and car displays.  Rei of Inkrat tattoos, famous in Japan, will be in attendance as well as local tattoo artists such as Horimaru Kan, owner of Ancient Ink Tattoo in South Austin.

‘Texans’ go to the NFL playoffs

In their first NFL playoff game in history, the Houston Texans will host the Cincinnati Bengals at Reliant Stadium in Houston this Saturday at 3:30pm.

The Texans defensive coordinator, Wade Phillips, has done a phenomenal job building a strong defense that keeps this team competitive.  Phillips, once head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, made some interesting picks for his defense such as cornerback Jonathan Joseph and linebacker Brian Cushing that helped set the Texans apart.

Holiday bazaar at the Palmer Events Center

The annual Christmas event fills 131,000 square feet of the Palmer Events Center in Austin.  People can stop by to browse through booths that are filled with crafts and art pieces that range anywhere from $5 to $10,000.  Anne Kelley, assistant producer of the bazaar, says, “We’ve got music, we’ve got drinks, and we’ve got everything that enhances the shopping experience. Everyone is happy to be here.”

Consumer Reports show that used vehicles may be more reliable then some new vehicles

A 2011 Consumer Report showed a survey that was taken to see how people viewed the reliability of their used cars. The survey found that most Japanese automotive brand vehicles had the least amount of troubles.

The study also showed that 11 models of cars  from the 2008 model year had the same amount of problems, or less, as the 2010 models. Some of the most reliable models were the 2008  Honda CR-V and Fit. Other trouble-free vehicles included the Toyota FJ Cruiser and the Toyota Cruiser.

Car dealers convicted in money laundering scheme

Two North Texas car dealers have been convicted in a money laundering scheme.

A 55-year-old man from Mckinney, Texas was convicted of conspiracy to commit money laundering and  47-year-old man from Richardson, Texas was convicted of conspiracy to commit money laundering and substantive money laundering.

The 55-year-old man was the owner and operator of a Suzuki dealership which sold new and used vehicles. He was also the director and president of  Expressway Financial Inc., which offers financial and leasing arrangements.

The 47-year-old man was the sales manager for the latter company. At the trial, prosecutors had witnesses that stated that the two men sold high-end luxury vehicles to people who derived their income from fraudulent activity such as the promotion of prostitution, distribution of a controlled substance, and wire fraud. During these transactions, the two men told the criminal customers that they would not report the transactions to authorities.
